Philippines Day 1 – Flight to Cebu
DUBAI -> MANILA -> CEBU
I am sitting in a BBQ restaurant in Cebu City just next to our hotel – Cebu R Hotel (But carefully, there are two in Cebu and of course the taxi driver took us from the airport to the wrong one. Despite having a map, we found out the mistake inside the hotel.) and thinking about the whole long day and previous night on a board.
I planned this trip more than 2 weeks before our departure, so we left Dubai behind us with an extreme excitement and high expectations in the night and flew 9 hours to the east. It was a long night, we slept, read, played games or just stare from the window. Cebu Pacific Airline took a well care of us and even some sickness problem the plane landed at 13 pm (9 am Dubai time) in Manila. It is the furthest piece of world I have ever been to. +4 hours from Dubai and +6 hours from Prague. It was hard to decide weather to go for a breakfast or have a lunch instead. Since the next flight to Cebu was scheduled in 2 hours, we stayed at the airport and chose something in a food court upstairs. First choice was Ramen and doesn’t matter that it’s not Philippine food, I was just hungry and felt still sick. Anyway Filipinos like Japanese food, too.
Connected flight to Cebu (with Cebu Pacific again) had 1 hour delay. As I had heard before and also experienced by myself it is not anything unusual, all domestic flights usually have even longer delay. So be aware and take a book with you, while travelling through Philippines you will have to face a lot of delays. However this flight was only 1,5 hour.
I remember one problem we had at the airport in Dubai with overweight baggage. Guys at Gate really do check all cabin bags, handbags, backpacks and if it is heavier than 7 kg,you have to pay extra (or you should have checked in before). Our first bag had 10 kg and second one 14 kg, but luckily they let us in without paying anything, but almost everyone pay something there. We were also luckily in Manila, maybe because the plane was already delay and our gate was changed on a last minute, so no one checked our bags. That’s how we took our very heavy backpacks with gear needed for 3 weeks through 2 gates without paying anything extra. 🙂
Cebu R Hotel Capitol is the hotel we stay now (for 2 nights). It’s very nice, clean small room with an old bathroom and very noisy environment, but it has everything we need for two nights also with a breakfast. so After that misunderstanding with the their second building we booked in the right hotel and and took a few minutes rest after a long long day. Then our hunger push us from the bed outside to the Cebu streets, where we found the BBQ restaurant with an outside “garden” and where I am now waiting for my order. I found out during saying my order not all Filipinos speak English as I have thought until today.Â
The restaurant is simple, you can choose from the meat on a skewer, if you want chicken breast, leg, pork or even another part of the body of that animals. That meat is marinated in some kind of soy sauce and you get also cup of rice. Yes it’s simple but it’s sooo delicious. Yammy I have better go and eat it all.
Hope you also have nice time wherever you are.
Lots of Love,
A.
